# Request: Variables for generic-midi

Hello, and welcome!

Probably not a bad idea. I will look into this when I get a moment. For now you can separate the info using string functions as I did here: [Trigger Companion presses by Channel/Note/Velocity - #7 by Andy](https://discourse.checkcheckonetwo.com/t/trigger-companion-presses-by-channel-note-velocity/4119/7)

I will also look into making a “generic” MIDI action as you suggest. Can I ask the use-case for that kind of action?
