I decided to download the software and make some programming changes on my DTR550s. The cable was the one sent for my Nextels years ago. It has the number 04292-0091655 on it. When I use the software, it reads the DTR 550, but when I go to write back to the DTR 550, I get the message:
For RM and RMM Series radio, please toggle the USB cable to ANALOG (CPS) mode.
For DLR Series radio please toggle the USB cable to DIGITAL (Flash) mode.
What should I try next?
AFAIK, the only CPS cable that works with the DTR radios is one like this one. They are available at lots of places.
Thank you for the reply. I was just reading your blog post about these, which helped put everything in perspective.
I looked a bit closer at my cable and it is marked NNTN5970A. When I was a Nextel customer, it was sent to me to update some of those devices. Even though the connector works with the DTR 550, I am not sure if I can use it for anything.
Glad it helped!

As you’ll see as you read more here, sometimes these cables can be frankensteined into flash cables.
