Using Companion with CL Editor to test/setup without physical access to the mixer

I’m using a StreamDeck, controlled by Companion (v 4.2.6). I used “Add New Connection” in the Companion GUI to install Yamaha-RCP (which I’m assuming is different from the RCP module available for download here). I can’t download files yet, since my trust level is still at zero.

I also downloaded the CL Editor and I’m running it on the same machine (Macbook Pro) as the companion software.

My goal is to experiment with automating cues/fades etc for a community theatre show I’m running sound for in a few weeks. Since the mixer is at the theatre, I have VERY limited physical access to the hardware. I was hoping to test things with a “virtual mixer” using CL Editor. However, the Yamaha-RCP keeps sending “connect ECONNREFUSED 127.0.0.1:49280” messages.

I’m not new to technology or Companion, but I am very new to using it to control a mixer. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Jim

Hello Jim, and welcome!

The RCP module will only work with a connected console. The various console Editors do not speak “RCP”, so while you can create actions and feedbacks, you can’t really test them until you’re connected to a console.

The CL/QL module, which ONLY works with the CL and QL consoles CAN connect to the editor and work “offline”. For that one, you’d need to download the .tgz file and add it manually. It’s not part of the included companion modules.

I think just writing a post like this has raised your “trust level” to the point where you can download. If you have any trouble, LMK!
