Hi everyone, I’m the new guy here so let me apologize in advance. I don’t have much time for experiments because the tour will start soon. I’ll be working as a monitor engineer on a Yamaha PM5 Rivage and I’d like to use Stream Deck for the sends on fader. I noticed that I should use Generic MIDI instead of Yamaha RPC. I wanted to ask if the connection to the mixer is the same in this case, meaning via network, or if I need to use the MIDI input on the surface. Also, if I use the network, could there be any issues if I’m also running Dante on the same computer? Thanks a lot.
Welcome, Stefano!
I’m sorry that I don’t have a Rivage to try this with and give you instructions. What I can say is that if the Rivage supports MIDI over Ethernet then that would be the easiest. Historically, however, Yamaha hasn’t done that (or at least hasn’t supported that), and will default to actual MIDI connectors or USB MIDI (as in the case of the DM series).
I encourage everyone to write to their Yamaha reps and ask that they PLEASE add “Sends on Fader” selection to the RCP command protocol! (AND “Selected Channel” :-))
I work on Rivage weekly, you need a MIDI interface to use Companion. The iConectivity Mio unity will do RTP MIDI so that helps if you need MIDI over ethernet.
Thanks so much for your reply. For now, I’m using it normally with RPC messages. I’ve put all the communications there, so next week I’ll try with the MIDI. Can I use them together, right?
